The paper represents a current survey about harmful inorganic and organic substances in paper, recovered paper and recycled pulp. Heavy metals and anions/salts are discussed as well as halogenated (OX, PCP, PCB, PCDD, PCDF) and halogen free organic substances (formaldehyde, PAH, mineral oil, bisphenol A, phthalates, DIPN, UV photo initiators). The possibilities of removal of harmful substances during processing of recovered paper are presented and the transfer of harmful substances by the recycling cycles is discussed using the example of mineral oil.
Waste paper – Pollutants – Heavy metals, salts, mineral oil, formaldehyde, halogenated organic compounds, dioxins, PCP, plasticisers (phthalate) – Dioxins – Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP) – Resource conservation, resource protection – Inorganic and organic substances in paper – Recycling |
