Treatment of residual waste with grate technology is tried and proven for decades. Safe and reliable plant operation, high availability as well as very low emissions are state of the art. Besides environmentally sound treatment of residual waste, the utilization of the energy contained in the waste has become significantly more important in recent years, not only regarding the aspect of saving resources, but also of the reduction of greenhouse gases.
Even though grate technology is well proven, there is need for further development - be it in order to comply with new / changed legislation, be it in order to obtain better quality of the residues for their re-use or be it for better protection of boiler tubes from corrosion, to name some examples.
The markets for waste incineration plants are changing. Many countries in Europe have installed sufficient capacity, the market is shifting towards UK and Eastern Europe. On the American continent, the only activity is in the US, but also rather limited. China will be dominating the market in Asia for many years to come, with deliveries though coming almost exclusively from China itself. Japan will stay an important market, but at a significantly lower level than in the past.
