This paper shows an analysis and presentation of the waste management situation in Germany until 2020 - starting from the base year 2007. The authors give summary on household waste (residual waste, dry and wet recyclables, bulky waste), commercial and industrial waste (non-hazardous industrial wastes, production-specific waste and construction waste), high calorific value fractions from MBT, solid recovered fuels (RDF and SBS). Based on this information the authors make a forecast of expected future developments in the form of waste disposal scenarios and show projections for the development of the respective treatment capacity (MSWI, MBT, SRF fired power plants, co-combustion) by the year 2020. Moreover, the short-to medium-term impacts of the financial and economic crisis since september 2008 on the respective waste markets in Germany are assessed. In addition, the regional price development for MSWI and MBT in the period from 2005 to 2009 are discussed as well as the prices for solid recovered fuels (2008). Finally, the authors give a short outlook to the situation of waste streams in Europe with a focus on the total available potentials of SRF.
